Watching from the Cine Opera building -full image-

This image was inspired by a fabulous movie palace in Mexico City, the “Cine Opera”, an architectural gem of the Art Deco style. In this movie theater I saw many great films in my childhood, like "The Neverending Story," “Terminator 2”, “Mazinger Z”, “Transformers” (the animated film, of course), “Batman Returns” and many more. When I walk near to this beautiful building, I remember how wonderful was going to the movies at that times: the sweet smell of popcorn (I mean, REAL popcorn), the candies, the chocolate, the toy sellers outside the cinema... and of course, the movie theater itself. All shining, all luxurious… it was magnificent.

All that wonderful experience that now has been lost forever, with those disgusting, vulgar, cold ultra moderns movie theaters, that seems like giant toilets.

Unfortunately, the Cine Opera was abandoned in the early 90's. Despite its historical and aesthetic value, it has fallen into decay and nowadays it has an uncertain future. You know, that's something that I really hate of living in an underdeveloped country, that sort of things are not valued or rescued, and everything is destroyed.

Anyway.

Being the magnificent stage that it is, and due all that it means for me, I wanted to make it a tribute, including a part of it in this scene. It was hard work by the composition, the interaction of elements, and different techniques that I use.

Esta imagen está inspirada en la marquesina de un hermoso cine de la Ciudad de México, el Cine Ópera, una joya arquitectónica del estilo Art Decó. En ese cine vi muchas películas en mi infancia, como "La Historia sin Fin", “Terminator 2”, “Mazinger Z”, “Transformers” (la película animada, por supuesto) y “Batman Regresa”, entre muchas otras más. Al pasar por ahí, me acuerdo con nostalgia cómo era el ir al cine en aquel entonces: el olor a palomitas (palomitas de verdad, no la porquería grasosa que venden hoy en día), los gaznates, las pasitas con chocolate, las grajeas con chochitos de colores, los vendedores ambulantes de juguetes afuera del cine... y el cine en si, todo brillante, todo fastuoso, todo limpio… era genial.

Toda esa experiencia que ahora se ha perdido, con esas horrorosas, frías y vulgares salas ultramodernas, que parecen inodoros gigantes.

Por desgracia, el Cine Ópera fue abandonado a principios de los años 90, y a pesar de su valor estético e histórico, ha caído en el deterioro y actualmente tiene un futuro incierto. Eso es lo que detesto de vivir en un país subdesarrollado, ese tipo de cosas no se valoran ni rescatan, y todo termina destruido.

En fin.

Siendo el escenario maravilloso que es, quise hacerle un homenaje, e incluir una parte de el en esta escena. Fue un trabajo arduo por la composición, la interacción de elementos, y las diferentes técnicas que uso.
